Remembering Amrita Pritam: A lost gem

Born as Amrita Kaur, the legendary writer lived a remarkable life with hundreds of ups and downs. She has left behind a legacy of more than a hundred books of fiction, poetry, biographies and Punjabi folk songs along with her other evergreen works.

However, what we know about Amrita is limited to a few poems. In an attempt to bring forward the hidden aspects and works of Amrita Pritam, The Modern Poets are bringing her back to the world’s stage in a play titled ‘Ek Hain Amrita’.

A compilation of poetic musical, dance and story-telling, covering and discovering several aspects of Amrita’s life, will be staged on 27 August.

Jewelled with the poems and compositions of Sahir Ludhiyanwi and his role in Amrita’s life, the show will include a theatrical narration of her letters to Imroz as well. But apart from the characters of Sahir and Imroz and the troubled tales of love and marriages, the audience will be introduced to the initial years of Amrita’s life.

While Amrita, the legend of Punjabi literature is mostly known for her poems, her letters will bring back the Amrita we barely know.

Adapted and Directed by Mohit Dwivedi Eik Hai Amrita : Aazad Rooh Ka Rasidi Ticket is a theatrical musical performance including dance performances based on her own compositions and a letter to the departed soul of Amrita Pritam.

When : 27 August, 2:30 pm

Where : Vasuki Auditorium, Lok Kala Manch
