A teenager stabbed a 17-year-old boy at least 55 times, tried to slice through his neck, kicked his head and dragged his blood-soaked body around a narrow bylane in Welcome neighbourhood in northeast Delhi, even as he occasionally broke into a dance during the attack, police said on Wednesday.
Some distressing specifics of the incident in Janta Mazdoor Colony on Tuesday were captured on CCTV, a 2.23-minute video displaying the accused making threats toward bystanders.
Authorities mentioned that the accused, apprehended on Wednesday morning and having admitted to the crime, was not acquainted with the 17-year-old victim whom he had reportedly approached for money to purchase biryani.
“We have recovered the weapon used in the murder. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the knife,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 pm on Tuesday. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the victim succumbed on the way.
The CCTV footage exhibits the accused dragging an individual through a narrow lane and engaging in a stabbing frenzy.
“In addition to the violence, the accused was observed dancing during the appalling act. When an individual attempted to open a door to intervene, the accused brandished a knife and threatened them,” a law enforcement official investigating the case remarked.
The altercation began when the victim allegedly declined to purchase biryani for the accused, reportedly triggering an aggressive response. What initiated as a verbal altercation swiftly escalated into physical conflict.
“The accused managed to overpower the 17-year-old victim, a resident of Jafrabad. He initially strangled him until he lost consciousness, then drew a small knife from his pocket and repeatedly stabbed him. Later, he dragged the victim to a secluded area where he continued the assault, inflicting over 55 stab wounds on his face, neck, back, and beneath the eyes,” detailed the official.
Additionally, the investigator mentioned that the accused was seen warning bystanders to stay away.
“The accused was intoxicated at the time of the incident,” the investigator added.
The horrifying incident did not conclude there.
“What surprised us further was that after the entire ordeal, the accused lifted the lifeless body by the hair and dragged it back to the same narrow area. He stole Rs 350 from the victim before fleeing. However, the accused has been apprehended, confessed to the crime, and the murder weapon has been recovered,” the investigator revealed.
“The identification of the accused was made possible through the CCTV footage, leading to the immediate arrest by the police team,” said DCP Tirkey. (With inputs from PTI)
