Following a reported case of molestation on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus, the security department has announced new measures. Effective immediately, entry of outside vehicles will be restricted from 10 pm to 6 am.

In an official notice, the university stated, “The recent incidents of unauthorized individuals entering the JNU campus and causing disturbances during nighttime have been taken seriously by the competent authority. As a result, it has been decided to implement restrictions on the entry of outside vehicles between 10 pm and 6 am.”

To enforce this restriction, residents of the JNU campus will be required to present their identity cards at the entry gate. They have also been advised to personally verify or make a phone call to confirm the identity of their guests at the main gate.

“All residents of JNU are requested to cooperate with JNU Security by presenting their identity cards upon request at the entry gate. Additionally, residents are advised to confirm and identify their guests in person or through a phone call at the main gate. We urge all stakeholders to collaborate with the security measures in order to maintain a safe and secure campus environment,” the statement emphasized.

In response to the incident, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) alleged that several intoxicated individuals in a vehicle entered the campus and attempted to abduct two students. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, prompting the students to file two complaints with the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest), Manoj C, confirmed that two cases have been registered based on the students’ complaints, one involving physical assault and the other regarding molestation and attempted kidnapping. The police have identified the accused individuals and the vehicle involved, and investigations are currently underway.
